Philip and Diane (2011—in San Luis Obispo, California). Friends of Eddie Woods (and Jane Harvey) from the mid-1970s: Tehran, Iran, where they all worked at various jobs; as well as Kabul, Afghanistan, and Peshawar in northwest Pakistan. They were together then and are still close friends. They also have a daughter, Anjuna. Another couple on the same scene were Frank and Barbara. Eddie had last seen any of them in San Francisco, 1976, when he stayed for a spell at Barbara and Frank’s. Although a postal correspondence was later kept up for two or so years, they somehow lost contact not long after Eddie and Jane left London in 1978. Then, in February 2011, Philip came across Eddie on the internet, Frank contacted him via the contact page of this website, and everyone was suddenly back in touch!
Frank Seiple and his wife Tricia Gomez (2009—in San Luis Obispo, California). Eddie and Jane traveled extensively with Frank Seiple and Barbara Doran in Afghanistan in the mid-1970s, and were also together in north India (Dharamsala) and northwest Pakistan. In 1974-75 they shared a big house in an Armenian neighborhood of Tehran (another occupant was the American advertising executive Mick Royston). At the time Eddie was the sports editor of the Tehran Journal, and in due course he convinced Frank to join him on the paper as assistant editor, a position he held until Eddie and Jane left Iran in the spring of 1975 and Frank became head of the sports department. Eddie stayed with Frank and Barbara for some two months in the summer of 1976, San Francisco. Then he met a beautiful young man, Floyd Anderson, and moved in with him. On August 28th of that year Eddie drove to Tucson, Arizona with an old friend from Bali and India (who was also a friend of Frank & Barbara’s), David Scott Lukas, whence he hitchhiked to New York via the Southwest and Deep South and up the eastern seaboard. After a brief sojourn in New York, he flew to London to reunite with Jane.
