Inspired Consequences

You can break an egg in my face
and still tears will not move me.
A true fool is born by a nudging of time,
hearing himself come alive
within the shrill echoings of divine rage.
Surely, in both sadness and health,
I am chosen as one of these.

Wherever I go, whatever I do,
concern for consequences
is a latter-day game;
it pertains to a point
wherein all & nothing
is forever on the mind.

Love, on the other hand,
is a funny movement:
it can stab you in the back
when only moments before
the heart alone seemed to matter.
